Role of Indian Knowledge Systems in Promoting Mental Health

This paper specifically looks at how the Indian knowledge system serves as a key base for supporting mental health (Sing, S., & Pandey, C. S.2025, November). Maintaining mental well-being is a basic right for all people indeed, mental health is defined as a balance between physical health and mental and mental state. This research aims to study the important role of practices such as yoga, pranayama, and meditation taught in ancient Indian scriptures (including the Vedas, Upanishads, and Yoga Shasta’s) toward fostering mental well-being, and to assess the current importance of the Indian knowledge system within the field of mental healthcare. Using a descriptive approach, this study uses qualitative methods. The findings indicate that the Indian knowledge system plays a key role in supporting an individual\'s mental peace (Bhakkad, M, 2025). This is achieved through different methods based on IKS. Ayurveda medicine provides treatment with fewer side effects. Yoga Shasta helps develop inner peace and meditation builds mental strength and patience mental resilience, and self-confidence. Thus, the Indian knowledge system through the practice of meditation and yoga is important for achieving mental well-being. Future research in this domain could further help improve this area of study and facilitate the making better policies. In conclusion, this research aims to help people across the globe to lead lives characterized by sound mental health and well-being. Key words: Holistic, mental health, Vedas, Well-being, Epistemology
